Luka Doncic is entering the final stretch of his intensive summer training in Ljubljana as he gears up for the 2026–27 NBA Regular Season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to a report by Sport Klub on Wednesday, the Slovenian superstar is emerging from the longest competitive hiatus of his career, spanning over 200 days. This extended layoff was the direct result of a Grade 2 hamstring strain sustained in early April, which prematurely ended his 2025–26 campaign and forced him to skip national team duties over the summer.
To accelerate his recovery, Doncic traveled to Europe and turned to cutting-edge medical treatments, including stem cell therapy. Under the watchful eye of his long-term personal trainer, Anze Macek, the regimen has prioritized full rehabilitation and comprehensive conditioning. The 27-year-old guard is reportedly in peak physical condition, with his weight optimized at approximately 105 kilograms. While his current routine in Slovenia features weightlifting and on-court drills, it does not yet include full-contact scrimmages.
Beyond restoring his health, the playmaker has proactively embraced his leadership mantle for the upcoming year. He recently hosted an informal mini-camp and bonding sessions with his new teammates in Ljubljana to foster early chemistry. This initiative signals a pivotal transition for Doncic, who is poised to become the undisputed focal point of the franchise after previously sharing the floor with LeBron James.
Under head coach JJ Redick, a fresh chapter for the Purple and Gold officially commences with training camp on September 29, following the traditional media day on September 28. Doncic is scheduled to fly to California on September 20 to join the squad. The Lakers will contest five exhibition games between October 5 and 16 before launching their regular season on October 21 against the Golden State Warriors in crypto.com Arena.
