Alperen Sengun continues to grow in importance for the Houston Rockets. The Turkish star has been training in his home country in preparation for the upcoming season.

With Kevin Durant on the roster and the return of Amen Thompson, the Houston organization knows it is time to compete. Rafael Stone, the Texas team’s General Manager, shared an anecdote from his trip to Turkey with Sengun.

“Yes, we spent a lot of time here together. Two weeks, that’s a lot of time”, Stone said, laughing. “I thought this was something important for me to do. We had some good conversations at the end of last year, and part of it was him putting some pressure on me like: ‘Hey, you have to be around more’, and that’s not fair”.

“You have to communicate better; he’s like he’s always around, but I want to hear from you more”, Stone said. “And these first couple years I was always on him, and I’ve tried to back off a little bit”.

“And, you know, he doesn’t need me yelling at him 24/7”, Stone answered. “But I took that in, and one of the things that came out of that one was like: ‘Hey, let me go spend some time with you in Turkey; I’ve been telling you about that for four years”.

“It was a great experience, I loved the country”, Stone added. “Truly beautiful, truly nice and sweet people. He’s having a great summer, he’s working a lot”, he concluded.
