The NBA teams continue to have the ability to spend vast ammounts of money on basketball players

According to “The Athletic” the NBA updated the projection for the salary cap for the 2027-28 season.

The new projection is $2M higher than the previous one, giving the teams even more money to spend.

To be exact, the projection is $176M for the salary cap and $213M for the luxury tax line.

Practically, this means that the players whose max-contract extensions are tied to the 2027-28 cap number, most notably Victor Wembanyama and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, will get more money.

Plus, the new projection increases the max salary for potential 2027 free agents such as Nikola Jokic and Jalen Duren. It’s expected that since the new $10B television rights agreement has kicked in, the salary cap will raise almost by 10% every season.
