The Boston Celtics and the local Portuguese-American community converged in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to honor Neemias Queta with the grand unveiling of a vibrant, custom-designed basketball court on Saturday. The newly renovated playground sits in a neighborhood nestled in the heart of Greater Boston’s Portuguese diaspora.
This artistic makeover transforms the school’s blacktop into a colorful monument celebrating cultural heritage and hoops success. Executed by a dedicated squad of Portuguese designers who crossed the Atlantic specifically for the project, the court’s canvas prominently features Queta’s signature number 88, wrapped beautifully in the national colors of Portugal. Supported by local municipal authorities, the Portuguese consulate, and prominent corporate partners, the initiative brings sports, public art, and identity together.
School officials welcomed the revamp, emphasizing that the eye-catching facility perfectly mirrors their educational philosophy of openness and inclusion. For local kids and families, having Celtics inspiration on the ground provides a lasting landmark.

As Queta prepares to log his fourth season in Boston and build on his journey in the NBA, this serves as a living bridge between his European roots and his new home.
Making history as the first Portuguese player drafted into the league when selected 39th overall by the Sacramento Kings in 2021, the Lisbon native later captured an NBA championship with the C’s in 2024.
Following a major breakout 2025–26 campaign where he averaged 10.1 points and 8.4 rebounds as the starting center, he solidified his long-term future in Boston by signing a four-year contract extension.
