Italian forward Simone Fontecchio shared his thoughts on the Miami Heat’s NBA championship potential in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, posted Sunday. “When you acquire a generational talent like Giannis and add key veterans to the roster, your only goal is to go all the way,” he stated.
The native of Pescara noted that Giannis Antetokounmpo arrived early in Florida to fit in quickly, observing that ‘having several European teammates has also helped’ the Greek superstar find his footing within head coach Erik Spoelstra’s lineup. Alongside the Greek Freak, the team features a strong continental presence with Russian Vladislav Goldin, Serbian Nikola Jovic, and Swedish Pelle Larsson.
Reflecting on his place in the rotation, Fontecchio expressed confidence about keeping a steady role. “Our coach knows he can always count on me, and I have his trust, which is crucial for a player,” explained the 30-year-old forward.
After a Preseason 2026 stretch where he tallied 8.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 0.2 blocks, and 0.2 steals over five appearances, he is set to start his fifth year in the league. The Heat open their 2026–27 Regular Season against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Kaseya Center on Wednesday night.
From 77 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague appearances, Fontecchio opted to move to North America in 2022, five years after going undrafted. He has since appeared in 263 NBA fixtures, including a 70-game stint with Miami last season with 8.5 points per contest. Last July, he re-signed for the next season.
