The Houston Rockets edged the San Antonio Spurs 114–110 in a tight battle at Austin’s Moody Center on Friday. They controlled the pace for most of the night, securing a 2–0 start to the 2026–27 NBA Regular Season. The loss leaves San Antonio winless after two games.
French superstar Victor Wembanyama paced the Spurs with 25 points and 13 rebounds, but Amen Thompson blocked his final-second attempt to force overtime. The 22-year-old center last just under 32 minutes, shooting 9-of-21 from the floor and hitting two three-pointers. He also rejected two shots and dished out two assists, but his double-double was not enough to get his team over the hump.
Alperen Sengun countered. The 24-year-old Turkish big went toe-to-toe with Wemby, answering with 29 points, including a dominant 14-point explosion in the fourth quarter. Over his 35 minutes, he made an efficient 10-of-20, mirroring his counterpart by drilling two triples. Furthermore, he recorded seven rebounds, seven assists, and a block. Off the bench, Serbian Bogdan Bogdanovic contributed three points and a rebound in 11 minutes of action. Swiss center Clint Capela did not check in.
Both teams play again on Saturday. Last season’s runner-ups face the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center, wrapping up a tough back-to-back. Houston moves to Georgia to meet the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena.
