Bogdan Bogdanovic is enjoying life in Houston, but five straight victories have not changed his perspective on the season ahead.
The Serbian guard contributed 16 points, four assists and two rebounds as the Rockets defeated Milwaukee 132–100 on the road to improve to 5–0.
“It’s a nice start. We’re winning, the atmosphere is good, we’re practicing… I’m happy with everything,” Bogdanovic told RTS. “We’ve only just started, and I don’t think we need to overcomplicate things. Yes, we’ve won five games in a row, but it’s a long season. There are still 77 left. So, one step at a time.”
The visit to Milwaukee also gave him an opportunity to catch up with fellow Serbian Bogoljub Markovic.
“I’m glad I got to see Bogoljub. We didn’t get a chance to go out for dinner because we arrived late, but we spent some time together at the game. We got to know each other through basketball. He’s Bogi now, and I hope he keeps progressing and becomes better than me.”
Bogdanovic believes the youngster has plenty to build on, while acknowledging he has not followed all of his games.
“He came over young, which is good. He has a bright future and a lot of potential. I haven’t watched him much, but I did see those games where he played well against Zvezda and Partizan.”
Turning to Serbia, Bogdanovic praised his national-team teammates for making themselves available and delivering results, particularly away to Italy.
“First of all, I’m glad everyone showed up. It’s extremely difficult to find the time and prepare yourself to be at 100 percent. A win at home was expected, but beating Italy away was an excellent result. That shouldn’t be taken for granted.”
Jokic’s role as captain in his absence also drew a warm response.
“He’s the captain. That’s for the coach to decide, and we’re there to do our jobs. I saw that he enjoyed the role. That’s who he is.”
Back in Houston, Bogdanovic sees both considerable talent and clearly defined responsibilities as reasons for optimism.
“I’m happy with how the coaches prepare us for games, and I think we all have a defined role. This is certainly one of the most talented teams I’ve played on.”
