The Brooklyn Nets announced on Thursday that Russian guard Egor Demin has been diagnosed with a right leg bone bruise. He sustained the injury on Tuesday night at TD Garden, leaving early during an overtime loss to the Boston Celtics. While the 20-year-old Moscow native initially downplayed the setback, medical staff scheduled a reevaluation for next week.
The eighth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, presented by State Farm, averaged 10.3 points, 3.3 assists, and 3.2 rebounds as a rookie. Under Spanish head coach Jordi Fernandez, he entered his sophomore season averaging 7.8 points per game, a stretch that included a 22-point display against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
His injury overshadowed a series of roster moves, as Brooklyn secured its young core by exercising third-year team options on Demin, Drake Powell, French playmaker Nolan Traore, and Israeli prospects Ben Saraf and Danny Wolf.
Traore has built on his solid debut year. After averaging 8.9 points and 3.8 assists in his first campaign, last year’s 19th selection has increased his output to 9.5 points per contest.
His classmates have found minutes harder to come by. Saraf, a combo guard taken 25th, has made just one brief appearance after scoring 7.5 points per game last year. Wolf, a forward selected 27th who notched 8.9 points as a rookie, has also been limited to a single game.
Sitting at 0–4, Brooklyn resumes actions at the Barclays Center on Friday, directly opposite the Detroit Pistons. The matchup also serves as their opener in the Emirates NBA Cup 2026.
Elsewhere in the league, the Los Angeles Clippers intend to use their contract option for Swiss Yanic Konan Niederhauser, but the New York Knicks are expected to decline their option for French Pacome Dadiet, according to multiple reports in North America.
