The NBA world was shocked on Wednesday night, as Erin Popovich, Gregg Popovich’s wife passed away. The couple had been married for four decades, but Erin Popovich had been dealing with an illness for an extended period of time.
The San Antonio Spurs are playing the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night in Game 3 of the first round series, but due to his wife’s passing, head coach Gregg Popovich will not be able to coach his team.
As Jeff McDonald reported, assistant coach, Ettore Messina who recently had interest from the Charlotte Hornets, will take his place and try to will his team to a critical Game 3 win. The Spurs are down 2-0 and a third consecutive loss would make the series extremely tough against the defending champions, Golden State.
Spurs say Ettore Messina will coach Game 3 tonight against the Warriors. Gregg Popovich is out following the death of his wife, Erin, yesterday.
