The Los Angeles Lakers picked Svi Mykhailiuk with the 47th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, and later on officially signed him.

However, Director of Scouting and Assistant GM Jesse Buss was worried that the Lakers would miss the opportunity of drafting him. During an interview with Lakers reporter Mike Trudell, Buss explained why she was terrified: “Terrified. We felt like he was basically a first round talent. We were surprised he was there at 39, and much more surprised he was there at 47.”

In his first appearances as a Laker in the Las Vegas Summer League, the former Jayhawk shined with his performances and led Los Angeles’ team to the Finals. It seems as the Lakers made a good choice of drafting him, and now the Ukrainian rookie will have the chance of competing next to LeBron James.
