Pending free agent Mario Hezonja has certainly demonstrated his leadership skills since becoming the New York Knicks’ starting point guard. The 24-year-old Croatian forward assumed the role a couple of days ago and posted his first triple-double against the Houston Rockets. His team lost at the Toyota Center, but on Sunday secured the “W” by defeating the Washington Wizards at the Madison Square Garden behind Hezonja’s strong showing.

The former FC Barcelona Lassa player started for the 23rd time in the 2018-19 Regular Season, only for the second time at the PG position. He notched a career-high 30 points including the go-ahead three-pointer with 44 seconds to go. The newly-adapted play-maker was 9/15 inside the rainbow and 3/6 beyond the arc. He also recorded six boards, five dimes and two steals in 36 minutes.

“I’m just doing my job” he mentioned on his impressive performances and added: “There’s no quitters in this locker room, in this organization, and we’re just showing we have a great chemistry going around and it resulted in a win. So we’re not paying attention to standings or whatever it is. We just treat it as a development year and hopefully it results in something big next year.”
