Following Saturday’s report by NBA veteran journalist Peter Vecsey about Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and Panathinaikos OPAP coach Rick Pitino being in talks about the team’s vacancy in the head coach position, Cavs sources denied the news.
“False. We are, respectfully, not interested in him at all. No conversations with him by Dan (Gilbert) or anyone else,” a team source told cleveland.com.
Shortly after Vecsey’s report, Pitino, 67, told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that he wanted to make his comeback at being an NBA head coach.
For the moment, the coach is preparing alongside with the Greek team for Game 3 of the EuroLeague playoffs series against reigning champions Real Madrid, a do-or-die game for the Greens.
