Kristaps Porzingis will sign a new contract with the Dallas Mavericks. As Marc Stein of the New York Times reported, Porzingis and the Mavs reached an agreement on a five-year, 158 million deal.

With this contract, and until Giannis Antetokounmpo gets his new max-deal, Porzingis has become the highest paid European player in history, leaving behind him Nikola Jokic and his $143 million contract.

The two sides were expected to reach the aforementioned multi-year deal. Porzingis had been reported to prioritize getting a new contract with the Mavericks as early as possible once the free agency kicked off in order to turn his attention into getting ready for 2019-2020.

Porzingis, 23, was reportedly “cleared to play” following his recovery from a torn ACL injury, even before getting traded to the Mavericks by the New York Knicks in February. Dallas coach Rick Carlisle decided to not use him this past season.

In May, Porzingis was involved in a physical altercation while vacationing in his native Latvia.
