A veteran of 19 appearances in the Basketball Champions League, Vangelis Zougris emerged as the latest promising prospect from Europe, moving his talents to the NCAA.
The 20-year-old Greek center has committed to Louisville, as reported by Jon Chepkevich of DraftExpress on Thursday. The Cardinals previously welcomed German Sananda Fru, alongside Mouhamed Camara and Mikel Brown Jr., for the next season.
Developing his talents at the professional level, Zougris was a member of the top-tier club continental competition of FIBA Europe over the last three years. Playing for Peristeri bwin / Domino’s, he reached the Final Four 2024 in Belgrade under the guidance of Vassilis Spanoulis. In the 2024-25 edition of the Champions League, he tallied 5.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 0.5 assists, and 0.2 blocks per contest over six appearances between the Regular Season and the team’s exit in the Play-Ins.
Since debuting with Peristeri, the native of Athens has also logged 68 appearances in the top-flight division of Greece. Across 18 games in his fourth season, he averaged 6.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 blocks, and 0.5 steals per Stoiximan GBL contest.
Beyond the club level, he earned five caps with Greece’s senior national team during the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers, following a successful career at the junior level, which included a bronze medal and an All-Star Five nod in the FIBA U20 European Championship 2023. Another bronze, paired with being named in the All-Star Five, followed in the FIBA U20 EuroBasket 2024.
