Virginia Tech freshman Neoklis Avdalas will officially enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to his agent Alex Saratsis in a report by DraftExpress and Jonathan Givony on Friday.
The 6’9″ Greek guard’s decision comes on the heels of a productive debut season in the ACC, where he averaged 12.1 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game across 31 games, all starts, in the 2025-26 season.
The move is designed to maximize his options for the 2026-27 season. By entering the portal while simultaneously maintaining his status as an NBA Draft prospect, 20-year-old Avdalas can gather professional feedback from scouts while entertaining high-major NIL offers.

While Avdalas flashed lottery-level potential early in the season with the Hokies, most notably during a 33-point explosion against Providence, his consistency wavered during conference play. He finished the season shooting 38.6% from the field and 31.4% from deep. Consequently, many scouts currently project him in the late second round or as a potential undrafted free agent.
The former Panathinaikos prospect, who debuted in the EuroLeague at just 15, now faces a pivotal May 27 deadline. He can either remain in the draft if he receives a firm selection guarantee or withdraw to join a new college program that offers better developmental tools or higher compensation.
Before arriving in Blacksburg, the Athens native earned Greek League Most Improved Player honors in 2025 and represented Greece at the senior level during the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers, after a successful career at the junior level.
