Seeking a fifth Olympic gold medal and sixth gold overall with Team USA in FIBA competitions, the current plan for Kevin Durant is to play in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
In the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, he became the first male with four gold medals. His longevity working into the next Olympics as well was discussed during an event on Tuesday, sponsored by his company, Boardroom.
“If I’m still me,” the 36-year-old combo forward responded to a question about suiting up for host United States in 2028, “I don’t wanna be the veteran like ‘come sit on the bench and get your fifth’.”
Durant previously helped his country top the Olympic Games in 2021 in Tokyo, in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, and in 2012 in London, after a gold-medal run in the FIBA World Championship 2010. In 2010 and 2021, he was the Most Valuable Player of the respective tournaments.
A two-time NBA champion and Finals MVP with the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018, he is currently en route to his 19th journey in the league, and first with the Houston Rockets, who acquired him via trade during the offseason. On an expiring contract, he is expected to pen a contract extension, committing beyond the 2025-26 season.
Therefore, KD is looking into more years in the NBA, and occasionally also contemplating coaching.
“Some days I would, some days I wouldn’t,” he answered to a question about considering a coaching career following playing days.
