Pops Mensah Bonsu is officially since Monday a member of Olympiacos and just hours after the announcement of the deal the British undersized center talked to Eurohoops about his decision to sign with the Reds, leaving Galatasaray and Turkey.

After all, the weird ending of TBL’s finals is still fresh, a title was decided with Galatasaray not playing in Game 7. Mensah Bonsu was among the players who decided not to participate in the last final and supported the decision of the team’s management. As he said: “What happened in the TBL final was very strange and as a player it was difficult to see it end like that”.

He also explained why he decided to sign with Olympiacos so early in the summer: “My decision was based on options, opportunity and timing. I would have liked to return to Galatasaray but it didn’t work out for a number of reasons”.

And of course, playing for the former back to back Euroleague champions is a great challenge and opportunity: “I am excited that Olympiacos chose me and I look forward to giving my best. They have a great history and I am glad to be part of it”.

This history also includes a fight in SEF with him being on the center of the incident, but that’s the past. As he said about what happened and the decision of the Reds to sign him: “It does seem weird but we are all professionals, and I am glad they were able to look beyond that to sign me”.
