Ryan Broekhoff signed with South East Melbourne Phoenix for the remainder of the NBL season, the Australian team announced Monday. He will officially strengthen SEM Phoenix after traveling back to his country and going through quarantine, according to health safety protocols.

Broekhoff, 30, went from launching his pro career at the European level with Besiktas from 2013 to 2015 and then Lokomotiv Kuban until 2018 to the NBA. He participated in 59 NBA games with the Dallas Mavericks and also joined the Philadelphia 76ers but did not play a single game.

Arriving in Melbourne’s South-East, he will move back to his hometown after establishing himself as one of Australia’s top players.

“I’m really excited to get back, see my family, get back playing, and obviously give back to Australian basketball and the Australian community,” he said, “I’ve had such great support through my junior program and the Olympics and everything like that, so it’s time to come back and start giving back.”
