Spartak Subotica pulled off arguably one of the biggest upsets ever in the Serbian League by eliminating EuroLeague side Crvena Zvezda with a 93 – 77 victory in Game 2 of the semifinals.
By winning the series 2-0, Spartak advanced to the Finals for the first time in the history of the club. Meanwhile, Zvezda ends a very disappointing season after failing to make the EuroLeague playoffs and getting eliminated by Igokea in the ABA League semifinals.
The trio of Luka Cerovina (24 points, five rebounds), Dusan Miletic (21 points, 10 rebounds) and Stefan Momirov (20 points, 11 rebounds) led the charge for Spartak. Their team entered the game with a 24 – 12 fury and remained in control for the remainder of the match.
Zvezda never managed to become even threatening to Spartak after their rough start. With the score 61 – 53 late in the third quarter, the hosts made a 20 – 6 run and never looked back.
Ognjen Dobric (17 points) and Filip Petrusev (15 points, nine rebounds) scored in double figures from Zvezda. Their team had 10-man roster due to injuries issues (Codi Miller McIntyre, Dejan Davidovac, Mike Daum, Joel Bolomboy) that “aren’t an excuse” as coach Giannis Sfairopoulos said after the game.
