In the opening game of the 2025-26 Betsson LKL Regular Season, Zalgiris strolled to an away win, 87-78, against Jonava.
At Jonava Sports Center, the new-look defending Lithuanian champions featured Moses Wright making his first seven shots and ending up 18 points with 8/11 two-pointers. The 26-year-old center added six rebounds, two blocks, and one assist, lasting 21 minutes. Fellow summer signings, Azuolas Tubelis and Nigel Williams-Goss, threw in 14 points and 11 points, respectively, for the team guided by new head coach Tomas Masiulis.
Countering team struggles from beyond the arc, 25-year-old Deividas Sirvydis went for 2/4 triples en route to ten points. Packing ten points, Ignas Brazdeikis emerged as a fifth double-digit scorer. Last season’s leading scorer, Sylvain Francisco, was limited to two points and 1/7 from the field but dished out six assists to go with two rebounds, two steals, and one block.
Injured Dovydas Giedraitis and Maodo Lo, who joined the team on Friday, were ruled out. The remaining players were available for the season opener.
Shortly before Saturday’s tipoff, the Green Whites Boys, the Zalgiris ultras group, announced a decision to pause support due to disagreements with the front office of the club.
Moving deeper in the schedule, the Kaunas outfit will play two more domestic league games, opposite Siauliai in Zalgirio Arena on Wednesday and opposite Neptunas in Svyturio Arena next Saturday, before opening the EuroLeague Regular Season with a visit to AS Monaco’s Salle Gaston Medecin on October 1.
