Former NBA superstar and Hall of Famer Dwight Howard played the final game of his professional career on Saturday.
According to his team in Georgia, Black Fortress Tbilisi, the veteran center has officially retired. The announcement marks the end of an incredible, globetrotting journey. The Atlanta native’s final chapter concluded after two appearances in the Georgian Superliga.
In his debut against Iverioni Gori, he made an instant impact. He recorded 12 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks in just 17 minutes. Despite his efficient play, Black Fortress lost a close 75–70 battle. He took the floor one last time against Tbilisi State University, TSU. He logged 19 minutes, finishing with ten points, four rebounds, and two blocks. Black Fortress fell to 0–3 in the 2026–27 Regular Season after an 89–82 defeat.
Before heading overseas, Howard built a legacy as a dominant NBA force. Selected with the first overall draft pick in 2004, he powered up the Orlando Magic for eight years, carrying them to the NBA Finals in 2009. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year eventually won a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. Representing the United States in FIBA tournaments, he captured gold in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and bronze in the FIBA World Championship 2006.
After 18 years in the NBA, Howard chose a global path. He starred for the Taoyuan Leopards in Taiwan, and suited up in the Philippines and Mongolia. From there to his brief stint in Georgia.
