The season didn’t begin ideally for Israeli League champion Hapoel Jerusalem won’t get a chance to defend last season’s Winner Cup title after losing to Ironi Nahariya.

The duo of Corey Webster and Alex Young combined for 49 points, leading Ironi Nahariya to victory over Hapoel Jerusalem 87 – 84 in the Israeli Winner (League) Cup quarterfinal.

Webster dropped 26 points, while Young scored 23, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished 4 assists and stole the ball thrice as Nahariya advanced to the semifinal where it will meet either Gilboa Galil or Hapoel Holon.

Jerusalem faced defensive issues, particularly in the last period when it received 25 points. Curtis Jerrells posted 16 points plus 5 assists, Jerome Dyson 14 points, Rich Howell 13 and newcomer Austin Daye notched 1 points plus 5 rebounds.

Yesterday, Maccabi Tel Aviv clinched a semifinal spot after downing Hapoel Tel Aviv.
