Neemias Queta soars in Utah State’s win

Neemias Queta highlighted the field of European action during Saturday’s NCAA matches.

Portuguese freshman center, Neemias Queta, posted his first NCAA double-double in Utah State (7-1) 89-65 victory against UC Irvine (7-2). He went off for 11 points, a career-high 19 rebounds, three assists and a block. His teammate and compatriot, Diogo Brito, added six points, a rebound and an assist.

Promising French forward, Jaylen Hoard, had eleven points, six rebounds and two assists in Wake Forest’s (4-3) 84-74 defeat to Richmond (3-5). His teammate, Olivier Sarr, added five points, five rebounds, an assist and a block. Finn Andre Gustavson notched five points and one steal for the Spiders.

Jon Axel Gudmundsson poured 25 points, also grabbed eight boards in Davidson (7-1) 91-85 victory against UNC Wilmington (4-5). Austrian Luka Brajkovic added 13 points, three rebounds and three blocks, Dusan Kovasevic (2reb) and David Czerapowicz also played.

Matej Kavas scored 18 points and added six rebounds for Seattle (8-2) that beat Eastern Washington (1-5) 88-68. Serb sophomore guard Luka Vulikic career-high 18 points, his three rebounds and three assists weren’t enough for the Eagles.

Gonzaga (8-0), #1 in the NCAA, continued with a 103-92 win over Creighton (6-2), Filip Petrusev posted two points, one rebound and one block for the Bulldogs. Martin Krampelj fouled out with ten points and five rebounds for the losing side.

Kansas (6-0), #2, needed overtime for its 90-84 victory over Stanford (4-4). Oscar da Silva scored six points with 2/10 from the field, also grabbed seven boards and dished an assist for the losing side. Lukas Kisunas added one rebound.

Francisco Alonso had 22 points, three rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes. However, UNC Greensboro (7-2) suffered a 78-61 defeat at the hands of #10 Kentucky (7-1).

#19 Purdue (5-3) suffered a 76-57 defeat at the hands of #7 Michigan (8-0) despite Matt Haarms five points, two rebounds, one assist and one block.

Alessandro Lever scored three points, added two rebounds and two assists in Grand Canyon’s (5-3) 69-67 victory over Boise State (2-5).

Estonian Matthias Tass contributed with six points, two rebounds, an assist, a steal and two blocks to Saint Mary’s (4-4) 84-71 win against California (2-4).

Swede Henrik Jadersten had seven points and Italian Guglielmo Caruso added two in Santa Clara’s (3-5) 81-74 home win over Northern Arizona (2-4).

Davide Moretti posted four points, three assists and one rebound for Texas Tech (7-0) in its 78-67 win over Memphis (2-4). His teammate Josh Mballa only played one minute without getting on the board.

Kavell Bigby-Williams finished up with nine points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal and nine blocks! The senior forward helped LSU (6-2) overcome Grambling (3-4) with 78-67.

Milos Supica started December with eight points, five rebounds and a block, but Charlotte (2-4) lost 72-64 to Charleston (7-2).

John Carroll poured 18 points and Romain Boxus added seven in Hartford’s (3-6) 76-63 victory over Bowling Green (4-4).

Shaquille Walters had two points, two assists, one rebound and one steal in Northeastern’s (4-4) 81-67 win against Eastern Michigan (4-5).

Freshman Tuukka Jaakkola scored three points in Cal Poly (2-5) 76-67 loss to Fresno State (5-2).

Asbjorn Midtgaard had one point and one block in Wichita State’s (4-3) 71-63 win against Baylor (5-3).

Djordje Dimitrijevic accumulated two points, three rebounds and an assist for Mercer (4-4) that lost 79-69 to The Citadel (6-2).
