Sekou Doumbouya, the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, will continue his career in France with Chorale Roanne Basket, the club announced. The French forward signed a contract for the rest of the 2023-24 season.

“I am very happy to be in Roanne,” Doumbouya said, per his team. “I like the atmosphere that reigns here with the group, and I have felt good chemistry with the coach since my arrival. Above all, I am very happy to be able to play again and help the team.”

Doumbouya, 23, is back in Europe after playing 96 games in the NBA over since he got selected by the Detroit Pistons with the 15th overall pick in 2019. He spent two seasons with the team but never managed to establish himself on the Pistons roster, getting multiple G-League assignments at the Grand Rapids Drive.

The Los Angeles Lakers signed Doumbouya to a two-way contract in 2021 but waived him after he played in two games. The player joined the Lakers again on another two-way deal in January 2022, only to be released in early March without playing in any game.

Doumbouya finished 2022-23 as a G-League champion with the Delaware Blue Coats.
