A couple of three-pointers sank by Derek Needham fueled Besiktas Emlakjet in the Istanbul derby opposite Fenerbahce Beko on Saturday.

Holding on through the last seconds of the Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi contest, the Black Eagles prevailed, 68-64, in an acute atmosphere in Sinan Erdem Dome.

With 2:48 remaining in the first half and Yam Madar hit by an object thrown from the stands, the game was interrupted. The injury of the Israeli point guard led the referees to consider their options but action resumed after a few minutes. Treated by the medical staff, Madar returned with stitches over his right eyebrow late in the third quarter.

Fenerbahce coach Dimitris Itoudis commented on the issue during the press conference: “I can’t talk about basketball after what happened. What if the coin had hit Madar a little lower and he had lost an eye? We must do something about this, I disagree that there’s nothing we can do”.

Shifting more focus on the exciting action, the team coached by Dusan Alimpijevic put on a confident display, retaining control for most of the second half and the entire fourth period. Upping his total to a game-high four triples with the daggers, Needham registered a team-high 15 points in Round 10 of the BSL Regular Season. Yigit Arslan chipped in 14 points.

For the team coached by Dimitris Itoudis, Nigel Hayes-Davis drew up a game-high 18 points and Sertac Sanli posted a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double. Johnathan Motley, Dyshawn Pierre, Tyler Dorsey, Nick Calathes, and Nate Sestina were ruled out alongside Raul Neto (right knee).
