Coach Selcuk Ernak of Banvit Bandirma talked in the team’s official website about why the team decided to part ways with American play maker Courtney Fortson and if a guard will be signed in his place.
“Fortson has been contributing a lot with around 10-11 assist per game”, said the coach of Banvit. “But he made some continuous mistakes in his recent games that caused us to lose our way on court. He has won us a lot of matches. His pace and defense have derailed many of our opponents.”
The American point guard averaged 16.2 points, 6.4 assists and 4.3 rebounds in the Turkish Basketball Super League. So his departure from Banvit came as kind of a surprise. But coach Ernak, obviously had his reasons to take such a decision. “Near the end of each game, his interest in what the team did was declining and this affected our results”, he explained. “So we decided to let him go. Fortson was loved by his teammates so they felt sad about him leaving. But they showed character against Usak Sportif”.
Will the club add a player now? “We want to sign a guard, but we won’t make a transfer just for the sake of it”.
