19 Eurohoops editors select their All-EuroLeague First and Second Team for the 2020-21 season

By Eurohoops team / info@eurohoops.net

After a long and exciting season, EuroLeague is getting ready for the Cologne Final Four, after a season of drought due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Right before the big event, all 19 editors of Eurohoops’ editions voted for their All-EuroLeague First and Second Teams and while some of the picks were expected, some others really were a surprise!

Take a look at the results of the voting:

All-EuroLeague Second Team

We kick things off with the All-EuroLeague Second Team, where Jan Vesely and Kevin Pangos take the stage with 15 and 10 votes each. Achille Polonara’s breakthrough earned him 8 votes from our editors, Shane Larkin and Nando De Colo also received 8, while Brandon Davies and Shavon Shields received 7 points each.

Vladimir Lucic and Wade Baldwin follow with 6, Vasilije Micic and Will Clyburn with 4, while Mike James and Jalen Reynolds had 3 votes, Walter Tavares received 2. Nick Calathes, Nikola Milutinov and Mateusz Ponitka each got one.

To sum things up, the All-Second Team, as picked by Eurohoops’ editors, includes Jan Vesely, Kevin Pangos, Achille Polonara, Shane Larkin and Nando De Colo.

Jan Vesely

Team: Fenerbahce
Stats: 13.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists in 31 games

Jan Vesely is one of the most complete centers in the Euroleague in recent years. He has shown incredible development and is often Fener‘s beginning and end on the offensive side.

So this year, after he returned from an injury, he took his team by the hand and led it to the playoffs. Even though he was absent from the first 2 games against CSKA, the Czech showed in a hard way that he is an integral part of the Turkish team.

Kevin Pangos

Team: Zenit
Stats: 13.5 points, 2 rebounds, 6.7 assists in 39 games

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Kevin Pangos was the main reason behind Zenit’s qualification to the playoffs, as well as the team’s 2-3 run against first-placed Barcelona.

The Canadian guard enjoyed a breakthrough season and for many was the top point guard of the campaign, offering score, creation, calmness and solutions to Xavi Pascual.

Achille Polonara

Team: Baskonia
Stats: 12.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists in 33 games

Achille Polonara could easily win the “most improved player” award in the competition. It’s no wonder how he ended up in the All-Second Team even though Baskonia didn’t make it to the playoffs!

The 30-year-old forward erupted in the second half of the regular season, and without him, Baskonia wouldn’t be able to hold on to playoffs hopes until the last round.

Shane Larkin

Team: Anadolu Efes
Stats: 15 points, 2.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists in 33 games

Even though he needed time to adjust after his surgery in the summer, Larkin accelerated and became, once again, Efes‘ offensive force.

The American guard keeps making EuroLeague history and he proves almost in every game that when he is in form, Efes has nothing to fear.

Nando De Colo

Team: Fenerbahce
Stats: 15.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists in 32 games

One more Fener player in the team that was absent for some time, but his return gave a breath of fresh air to the team. Nando De Colo remains one of the most talented guards in the competition and this season was no exception!

At 34, he has not shown any signs of slowing down and keeps “bombarding” the opponenents’ baskets at any given chance.

All-EuroLeague First Team

Things are much, much clearer when it comes to the first team. Nikola Mirotic received 19/19 total votes, and Walter Tavares followed with 17 votes.

Vasilije Micic received 15 of the total votes, Will Clyburn and Vladimir Lucic got 9, Nando De Colo had 7 and Kevin Pangos received 5. Shane Larkin and Mike James shared 4 and 3 votes respectively, while the rest of the votes went to Jan Vesely (2), Wade Baldwin (2), Malcolm Delaney (1), Brandon Davies (1) and Jalen Reynolds (1).

Eurohoops’ editors have picked Nikola Mirotic, Walter Tavares, Vasilije Micic, Will Clyburn and Vladimir Lucic as this season’s All-EuroLeague First Team.

Nikola Mirotic

Team: Barcelona
Stats: 15.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists in 31 games

Nikola Mirotic is the man of the regular season, undoubtedly. At least, us here at Eurohoops trusted him with all of our votes! Even if he was far from his “usual” self in the playoffs series against Zenit.

Even so, the Spanish forward was all over the court to lead his team to the top place of the regular season standings, doing so in an impressive way, many times.

Walter Tavares

Team: Real Madrid
Stats: 11.4 points, 8 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.8 blocks in 38 games

Walter Tavares stormed into the season and proved the critical acclaim right when it comes to his influence on the game.

His dominant performances, both on the offensive and defensive end (DPOY for the second season straight) helped Real as much as possible, even though the Spanish team fell short to Efes in the playoffs series.

Vasilije Micic

Team: Anadolu Efes
Stats: 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists in 38 games

Micic is a rare and talented guard. At any given night, he seems unstoppable both in scoring and creating for his teammates.

All signs point at an NBA jump in the summer, and he would very much enjoy doing so as a EuroLeague champion. At least, that’s what his performances this season show!

Will Clyburn

Team: CSKA Moscow
Stats: 14.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists in 29 games

Will Clyburn returned to action stronger, to lead CSKA to the Cologne Final Four. The American forward is considered by many the top player in the position, and rightfully so.

CSKA’s sweep against Fenerbahce was signed, to a great extend, by the 31-year forward that returns to the Final Four stage to defend both his Final Four MVP title and the reigning EuroLeague champion one!

Vladimir Lucic

Team: Bayern
Stats: 13.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists in 31 games

Bayern was one win away from qualifying to the Final Four for the first time in club history, though Olimpia Milano managed to get away with the win in Game 5. Still, Vladimir Lucic was a huge revelation, as he enjoyed his best EuroLeague campaign to date, in a team full of energy and talent.
