ABU DHABI – In the summer of 2024, both Devon Hall and Nicolò Melli left Milan and signed with Fenerbahce. While for the latter meant returning to Istanbul, it was a completely new experience for the American two-way guard.
At the end of the season, they are both EuroLeague champions. Right after the buzzer sounded in the Etihad Arena, the two hugged each other and loudly expressed their emotions.
Talking to Eurohoops Turkiye’s Bugra Uzar, he explained his post-game celebrations with the Italian veteran. “I was just smiling. I wanted to find Nik Melli right away, because we are close, and I know what it meant for him, and what it meant for us together. Being able to get this was important,” Hall said.
“I’ve never seen him cry like that; it’s a mix of emotions, you get to this point, it’s what you worked for,” the American all-arounder commented on the 34-year-old big man.
Asked if he believed during the game there was a turning point where he thought they had done it, he stayed calm until the very end. “I was still kind of focused, don’t let them get a three off, and then Marko [Guduric] gave me the ball with six-seven seconds left, I had it. And I was like, “It’s over, we just won it.”
Ultimately, speaking about the Final Four MVP, he commented that he didn’t care that he wasn’t the one receiving it, but Nigel Hayes-Davis. “I don’t care who got it, as long as we won. It speaks to the depth of the group. Be able to have all these guys step up in big moments is crucial for us,” Hall said.
