Janis Timma, the newly acquired forward of Olympiacos will meet up with his teammate in the national team of Latvia, Janis Strelnieks, who was acquired by the Reds last summer.

Essentially, the Piraeus team added an athletic forward to their squad, something that the 59-year-old Blatt wanted ahead of his first season at the helm of Olympiacos. On the occasion of the team’s announcement of the acquisition of Timma, Eurohoops looks back on the Latvian forward’s career and remembers his most important moments on the courts.

The move to Riga

Timma started playing basketball at a young age. He was introduced to the game in Kraslava, where he was born. At 15 years of age he moved to his country’s capital, Riga, in order to join the coaching program of ASK Riga. It didn’t take him long to get on the roster of the first team, since he made his debut at a professional level at the age of 16. After the dissolution of ASK, the up-and-coming player played for DSN Riga for almost two years, a team with many young players in Latvia’s second division.
