Zenit St. Petersburg veteran Vitaly Fridzon spoke to the team’s website about the latest COVID-19 developments, the decision to skip this week’s games in Spain, as well as the postponement of their VTB League game against CSKA Moscow.

“Honestly, this day I do not want to answer [about my reaction]. This is not my business, but you must agree that we cannot go to Spain and play against rivals with five players in the squad. I think this can happen to any team. Therefore, I would like everyone to have the same attitude”, he said.

Zenit’s squad has been decimated, with nine of its players testing positive for coronavirus, resulting in the cancellation of Round 3 and Round 4 games against Baskonia and Valencia respectively.

“They [teammates] are not small children, to somehow support them. Thank God that no one has any serious health problems, the disease is mild. I hope that in the near future the guys will pass two negative tests and start the training process again”, said Fridzon who revealed he tested positive back in May.

Due to these developments, the VTB League has decided to postpone the game against CSKA Moscow, a decision that was welcomed by the former CSKA guard.

“For me, a match with CSKA is a game against a very strong opponent, nothing more. It’s nice that the VTB League understands our situation. The decision to postpone the game is the optimal one in the current situation. I hope that when the game takes place, the audience will enjoy watching it”.
