After a challenging season for Khimki Moscow region, the turmoil continues as the club could not prove their financing and therefore will not participate in the 2021-22 VTB League season, as reported by TASS.

“The league received an official letter in which Khimki notified the league’s management that they could not confirm their participation in the 2021/22 season due to the lack of financial guarantees”, the report mentions.

The Russian club has been experiencing financial issues and has even been banned by EuroLeague from registering players in early March 2021. It was later reported that Khimki had nearly three million euros overdue payables towards its players. Per TASS, these payables have not yet been settled.

Khimki finished last in EuroLeague this season with a 4-30 record and their VTB League campaign ended in the quarterfinals after being swept by Lokomotiv Kuban.
