The collaboration between Vassilis Spanoulis and Monaco has come to an end.

The Greek national team coach attended a meeting with Monaco officials and the outcome is clear: both sides are parting ways.

The problems Monaco has been facing influenced Spanoulis’ decision (he was not on the bench for the team’s last league nor in the French Cup semifinals against Nanterre) and the situation had become irreversible regarding his stance.

This means Monaco will host Olympiacos on Thursday, March 12, without Spanoulis on the bench. Sergei Gladyr will take over the team’s coaching duties, with Markoishvili serving as his immediate assistant.

Spanoulis joined Monaco on November 26, 2024, and in his first season in the Principality he led the team to the EuroLeague final, eliminating Olympiacos in the semifinal. He ultimately lost the trophy in the final.

During his time with Monaco, “Kill Bill” won the French League Cup a few weeks ago. Last season, however, he failed to win the French Cup and the League Cup (both lost to Le Mans), as well as the league title (a 3–2 series defeat to Paris).

Monaco reaches French Cup final

Sergei Gladyr started his stint as head coach with a victory against Nanterre 83-88, which allows Monaco to qualify for the French Cup final against Le Mans.

Despite Roko Prkcin’s great game (16 points and 9 rebounds), the home team couldn’t control the away team stars. Six Monaco players finished the game with scoring double digits: Jaron Blossomgame (10 p.), Mike James (14 p.), Elie Okobo (12 p.), Nemanja Nedovic (14 p.), Mathew Strazel (15 p.) and Alpha Diallo (16 p.).
