Even if you are still not completely sold on the phenomenon that is Luka Doncic, it’s difficult to argue with Goran Dragic’s high praise following the youngster’s career-high display vs Latvia.

“That’s why he’s the best in his age. Not only in his age. Probably from 18 to 25. He’s only 18 years old and he’s playing with such confidence. He’s a diamond of European basketball. People back home are really happy that we got him. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a kid. He watches cartoons, he watches friends. But when you put him on the floor he’s unbelievable. We are lucky to have him.”

Doncic’s performance against Latvia was the best ever from an 18-year-old in the history of EuroBasket tournaments.

“We have an internal joke: It’s that we help him to improve these last months. Obviously, it’s an unbelievable talent. I’m happy he’s here. We told him that the role in his team is a role that he never had before. Nobody is born with experience. You are going to gain it. This is a something we anticipated with him being next to Goran who is our leader, our Alpha. That he (Doncic) will grow within the team. He’s getting better and the sky is a limit. He has to keep working his game of course. This tournament is part of this process,” added Slovenia head coach Igor Kokoskov.
