VEF Riga delivered one of the greatest upsets this season in VTB League by defeating powerhouse Khimki Moscow 77 – 73 away from home after a major comeback in the fourth quarter.

This was quite the stunning win, even moreso considering that Khimki was up 14  (!), 59 – 45 in the beginning of the final period after a basket by Anthony Gill. But Riga proceeded to score a phenomenal number of 32 points in nine minutes to take a mighty victory back to Latvia.

Ken Brown scored a game-high 22 points (5/6 3-pointers) and grabbed 5 rebounds and Kristaps Janicenocks added 21 plus 4 assists for the winning squad. Tyler Honeycutt had 15 points plus 5 rebounds for Khimki while Alexey Shved finished with 12 points (5/17 from the field) and a game-high 9 assists.

In the other VTB League game played today, Unics Kazan put on an excellent defensive effort to beat Kalev Tallinn 75 – 67 on the road and remain at the top of the standings.

Jamar Smith had 15 points and Stephane Lasme a double/double of 11 points/10 rebounds for Unics. Isaiah Briscoe (25 points) was the only Tallinn player in double figures.
