The 2020-21 ABA League began with quite the surprising result…

Borac delivered an immense upset in its first ABA League game ever by beating powerhouse Partizan on the road, on the opening day of the new season. It was a match between the two teams with which Zeljko Obradovic spent his playing career.

Let’s take things from the start…

FMP – Primorska 84-65

Sava Lesic banked 20 points and 12 rebounds for FMP to kick off the 2020-21 ABA League with a win while Stefan Djordjevic added 12 points.

Filip Covic had eight points but also dished ten assists. On the opposite side, Luka Voncina scored 17 in addition to Jurij Macura’s 15 points.

Igokea – Mega Soccerbet 62 – 84

The young players of Mega delivered the upset on the road against Igokea. Marko Simonovic had 19 points and 13 rebounds while Filip Petrusev posted 17 points and seven rebounds.

For Igokea, Marko Josilo and Jackie Carmichaels scored 11 points apiece.

Buducnost – Split 84 – 59 

Five players scored in double figures as Buducnost crushed Split at home to begin its ABA League obligations in style. Melvin Ejim (12 points, eight rebounds), Justin Cobbs (12 points), Suad Sehovic (11 points), Dragan Apic (11 points) and Nikola Ivanovic (10 points) were the ones to lead a balanced Buducnost offense.

Marko Lukovic (12 points, seven rebounds) and Toni Perkovic (12 points) were Split’s top scorers.

Partizan – Borac 78 – 87

Borac had never played an ABA League game ever in the long history of the club until Saturday (3/10). In its first match in the competition they stunned Partizan Belgrade on the road for a stunning league entrance.

Radovan Dokovic (12 points), Uros Karapic (11 points, five rebounds), Derryck Thornton (11 points), Dusan Miletic (11 points, seven rebounds) and Bryce Tyler Jones (10 points) compiled the winning equation for Borac.

Ognjen Jaramaz dropped a game-high 21 points and Nemanja Gordic had 13 points for Partizan.

Cedevita Olimpija – Krka 77-69

Rion Brown shot 6-6 from the field including 4-4 from eep on his way to 21 points for the victors while Kendrick Perry added 14 in addition to Jaka Blazic and Mikael Hopkins’ 12 points each.

For Krka, Rok Stipcevic scored 18 followed by Roderick Camphor wth 12 and Luka Lapornik with ten points.

Cibona – Crvena Zvezda 66-104

Crvena Zvezda stunned Cibona in the last game of the opening round in ABA League with a 38-point victory. Corey Walden led the winning side with 19 points, six assists, Duop Reath had 17 points, six rebounds, while Jordan Loyd posted 15 points.

The list of scorers in double digits expanded with Dejan Davidovac (11 points) and Marko Jagodic (10 points).

Cibona’s Mateo Dreznjak added a team-high performance with 16 points, four assists.

Zadar – Mornar Bar 66-82

The first round of the new ABA League season was completed with a sweep by Mornar on the road. Jacob Pullen led the winning side with 15 points, Taylor Smith posted 12 points, while Kenny Gabriel, Nemanja Vranjes and Derek Needham posted 10 points each.

Zadar’s Dominik Mavra posted a game-high of 21 points, Aleksandar Bursak followed with 14 points, as Martin Junakovic added 7 points.
