Rallying from a double-digit deficit against the defending easyCredit BBL champions in SAP Garden, MLP Academics Heidelberg edged out FC Bayern Munich, 95-90.
Tucking in 10/19 field goals, including six three-pointers, DJ Horne tallied a game-high 26 points, pushing the visitors to a 1-0 lead in a best-of-five series of the Semifinals of Germany’s Playoffs. Michael Weathers followed with 23 points and five assists. Ryan Mikesell and Marcel Kessen added 17 points each for the team guided by Danny Jansson.
On the wrong end of Sunday’s Game 1, Vladimir Lucic finished with 22 points, a new personal best for the 2024-25 campaign, and Nick Weiler-Babb had 18 points. Due to an ankle injury, 34-year-old big Devin Booker was forced to an early exit, while Oscar da Silva (right knee surgery) and Carsen Edwards (back) remained sidelined.
On the opposite side of the bracket, a 22-point, 14-rebound double-double by NBA draft prospect Noa Essengue fueled ratiopharm Ulm in a 91-87 overtime victory versus FIT/One Wurzburg Baskets.
