Riga, Latvia – The prime minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced a government decision on a three million GEL bonus for the senior national team of the country for reaching the Quarterfinals of EuroBasket 2025.
“Since we have achieved a historic result in basketball, I would like to celebrate it with an appropriate monetary bonus from the government. We are going to allocate 3 million GEL for the success already achieved and for every future win at EuroBasket,” he said, relays Georgia Today.
The financial bonus for the historic success of the team coached by Aleksandar Dzikic amounts to approximately 948 thousand euros.
On Sunday, Georgia overpowered France in Xiaomi Arena to advance to the Quarterfinals. Up next on Wednesday is Finland in the Quarterfinals. Making a sixth straight EuroBasket appearance since debuting and setting the previous highest ranking with 11th place in 2011, the next four campaigns ended up between 15th and 21st on the final standings. Guaranteed to be among the top eight countries in Europe, the next challenge is moving into the Semifinals.
Starting in Limassol, Georgia ranked fourth in Group C to advance to the knockout stage. A 2-3 record included a win over Spain in the opener, which also decided a fourth-place tie with Sergio Scariolo’s side at the end of a five-game round-robin schedule. The second win was against host Cyprus last Tuesday, surrounded by losing efforts to Italy in Gameday 2, Greece in Gameday 3, and Bosnia-Herzegovina in Gameday 5.
