After Germany forward Isaac Bonga delivered a strong performance to help his national team win the 2025 EuroBasket, some of his teammates advocated for his NBA return.
“He’s been in the NBA before, so he deserves to be in the NBA and I’m confident he can play there,” said Germany guard Maodo Lo right after his national team won the gold medal in the 2025 EuroBasket, per Meridian. “At this level we’re playing, the difference between the Euroleague and the NBA is minimal. If you ask me – of course Bonga can play in the NBA. Just give him a contract and a pen to sign. And I think that’s true for a lot of European players. It’s not like it’s impossible. If you can shoot three-pointers well, if you have a high level of athleticism and a good body – you can play in the NBA, for sure, and Bonga has all that and can go to the NBA league.”
“You should go to the NBA,” Wagner had shouted at Bonga while the latter was talking to media in the mixed zone. The Orlando Magic player had also talked about Bonga deserving another NBA chance after the semifinal win over Finland.
Bonga had his top performance in the 2025 EuroBasket in the gold-medal game, posting a team-high 20 points on 4-4 3-pointers as Germany overcame Turkey in the last minutes to win the tournament.
He scored five points in the lat 3:38, including a triple that put his team up 78 – 77 and a dunk for the 79 – 79.
Bonga spent four years in the NBA, from 2018 to 2022. He registered 148 appearances and averaged 3.1 points and 2.2 rebounds with the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards and the Toronto Raptors.
Currently, Bonga is under contract with Partizan Belgrade until 2027.
