AS Monaco has broken its silence following its exclusion from the 2026–2027 Betclic Elite season, releasing an official statement on Monday to outline its final roadmap for survival.
La Roca Team formally confirmed a takeover spearheaded by former NBA All-Star Jamal Mashburn and that the plan remains to take its fight to the French National Olympic and Sports Committee, CNOSF.
Monaco acknowledged that the French Federation of Basketball, FFBB, Appeals Chamber’s decision on Saturday, August 1, to bar the club from the top tier of France was expected due to missed regulatory deadlines.
However, the club revealed that negotiations with Mashburn’s ownership group have reached a critical breakthrough point. According to the press release, discussions have ‘intensified considerably’ since the initial ruling, with all stakeholders now on the verge of a comprehensive agreement.
Monaco described the proposed sporting and economic package as highly ambitious for both domestic and European competition in the BKT EuroCup, backed by substantial financial guarantees.

To secure this future, the club based in the Principality of Monaco plans to leverage a formal conciliation request with the CNOSF. Negotiating parties have set a Friday target to completely finalize the takeover transaction. This is followed by a strict legal deadline next Tuesday evening to submit its comprehensive documentation to the committee.
Addressing the growing impatience of other clubs waiting for a finalized Betclic Elite and EuroCup structure, Monaco fiercely defended its right to exhaust all legal avenues. The club emphasized that its exceptional sporting results earned its rightful place in both the domestic and continental competitions. Asserting that its credible new project and resources justify immediate reinstatement, it will maintain total media silence until further developments.
