EuroLeague denies Olympiacos’ request for postponement or relocation of the game versus Olimpia Milano.

The Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 29 meeting between AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan and Olympiacos will take place on Thursday at Milan behind closed doors, as planned following the directive regarding sporting events in Italy due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Reds requested postponement or relocation of the game suggesting Rome and Genoa among potential alternative venues. However, EuroLeague denied the proposal.

Greece has stopped all flights towards northern Italy but Olympiacos would be able to travel indirectly via another country or via land transportation after landing in another Italian city outside the areas locked down.

In and out of Italy

The Italian Olympic Committee expanded on the country’s government decision suspending all sporting events until April 3. However, an exception is in place for matches in Italy between local and foreign clubs to be contested behind closed doors.

The coronavirus outbreak further effects proceedings with Greece issuing a 14-day quarantine for people that travel to Italy. In theory, this means that Olympiacos making the trip to Greece’s neighboring country might prevent the team from facing Real Madrid and Crvena Zvezda mts at home within this time-frame.
