Euroleague teams have decided to reduce quarantine days for players who test positive

By Eurohoops team/ info@eurohoops.net

With the COVID-19 cases increasing worldwide and Euroleague being forced to postpone a number of games in recent weeks, the competition decided to make a change, specifically, to decrease the quarantine period.

The teams have approved the change of quarantine for those who tested positive from 14 to between ten and seven days. The final number will be voted on by the Euroleague board on January 4th and it will depend on the different protocols imposed by the countries.

The NBA found itself in the same predicament and has recently shortened the quarantine days from ten to six days if the individuals are asymptomatic and their coronavirus test shows that they present no infection risk.

A potential suspension of the season was not on the table at all but the schedule going forward will without a doubt be one of the primary concerns, as there have already been six games postponed while the domestic championships have also been forced to alter their plan and program.

The current protocol states that the games can be postponed if a team doesn’t have at least eight players available, but it can’t be postponed more than three times and those teams that exceed the limit will lose the match by 20-0.

It should also be noted that the postponed games can’t be held after April 14 (the end of the regular season) but also that it is possible to hold a match in a neutral venue, if the need arises.
