After falling short of the EuroLeague Final Four, Real Madrid is reportedly already preparing for next season, and according to La Nuova, the club is eyeing Reyer Venice center Mfiondu Kabengele.
The Canadian big man had a standout season in the BKT EuroCup and was often rumored to be on the radar of multiple EuroLeague teams.
The former LA Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Boston Celtics player averaged 15.4 points and 9.7 rebounds, earning a spot on the BKT All-EuroCup First Team. He posted a PIR of at least 30 in five of his 18 EuroCup games, led the competition with nine double-doubles, and finished second in average PIR with 23.2.
Kabengele also showcased his quality in the Italian Legabasket, where Reyer Venice is heading into the playoffs. He averaged 14.8 points and 9.7 rebounds per game in domestic competition.
He was reportedly on Real Madrid‘s radar back in January, but the Spanish powerhouse ultimately opted to sign Bruno Fernando at the time.
The 27-year-old center was selected by the Brooklyn Nets with the 27th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, with his draft rights later traded to the LA Clippers. Kabengele appeared in 55 NBA regular-season games and spent considerable time in the G League before deciding to move overseas in 2023, signing with AEK in Athens. He later joined Reyer Venice and re-signed with the Italian club for the 2024–25 campaign.
