Juan Carlos Navarro, Barcelona legend and current GM of the basketball section of the club, talked after the defeat to Unicaja, to local media about the future of the club.
Navarro supported coach Joan Penarroya: “It’s been a very tough season in every sense. The progress the players have made since the Copa del Rey is very commendable. We’re completing the season without a title, but we get a passing grade. I am sure that Joan (Penarroya) has done an incredible job, and we are already working on some pieces that can be added in the future”.
When asked directly if Penarroya is staying, Navarro answered: “Yes, I am convinced of that”.
After all, the team suffered from many key injuries, Navarro admitted that the club is not in the best financial situation, so there were no replacements, especially in the point guard position, and that’s why he is satisfied: “We were one basket away from the EuroLeague Final Four. We were coming into the end of the season exhausted.”
And when asked about the possible addition of Toko Shengelia, Navarro didn’t deny it, but also didn’t want to confirm: “Shengelia is a very interesting player, but he is currently competing for another team, so I can’t talk about him”.
