As Panathinaikos‘ season finished in both the Greek Basket League and lost in the Semi-Finals of the EuroLeague Final Four 2025 in Abu Dhabi, Wenyen Gabriel’s experience in Athens got to an end.
The deal between the former Maccabi Tel Aviv center and Ergin Ataman’s team was until the end of the 2024-25 season, and he’s now on the market.
According to Onda Deportiva Valencia, the South Sudanese center is one option for the Spanish side, which will play in the EuroLeague as part of the expansions to 20 teams.
Moreover, as reported by Meridian Sport, the team from the ACB is reportedly the frontrunner for him.
In the 2024-25 EuroLeague season, split between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Panathinaikos, he had been averaging 6.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.
Wenyen Gabriel had never played in Europe before 2024, spending also the full 2022-23 season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Internationally, he has represented South Sudan in the FIBA World Cup and at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
Piath Gabriel, Wenyen’s sister, was recently announced as one of the newest acquisitions by Valencia‘s women’s team. Next season, she will play on loan at La Cordà de Paterna but practice with Valencia.
