It has been over a week since Partizan and the decorated tactician officially parted ways following Obradovic’s resignation, yet the topic remains one of the main talking points in European basketball circles.
Bogdanovic shared his thoughts during the “EuroLeague & Friends: Going Global” podcast with Deniz Aksoy and Kyle Hines.
“It was a big surprise for me. But Zeljko is an experienced man, and I believe in his decision — I think he made the best choice at that moment, not only for himself but also for the team. He is very emotionally connected to Partizan. I’m very sad that he made that decision, but he is very experienced and surely knows why he did it. I’m sad that I won’t see him on the sidelines finishing the season. But it is what it is,” Bogdanovic said.
The two previously worked together at Fenerbahce, winning the 2017 EuroLeague championship.
“Partizan is his first love. Even when we were at Fenerbahce, we always talked about Partizan. He loves the game, and whenever he talks to players, he always wants to see their love for basketball. That’s what makes him successful,” added the Los Angeles Clippers guard.
Partizan has already won two games since the coaching change and is set to face arch-rivals Crvena Zvezda in the Belgrade derby on Friday.
“When a coach makes that decision, there’s always a reaction, so we’ll see… Especially when someone like Zeljko leaves. As a coach, he takes a lot of blame and pressure on himself. Now the pressure is on the players — there is no Zeljko anymore. From my experience, such a situation can bring something positive. I hope it will be good for Partizan,” Bogdanovic concluded.
