Baskonia captain forced to address persistent ankle pain after conservative treatment failed

By Eurohoops team / info@eurohoops.net

According to El Correo, Tadas Sedekerskis is set to undergo surgery in the coming hours to resolve the recurring pain in his right ankle, an issue that has troubled him since last summer’s EuroBasket.

The procedure aims to correct a problem that conservative treatment—physiotherapy, injections, and rest—failed to solve.

The recovery timeline will be confirmed after the operation, but per reports that the Lithuanian forward could miss around two months of action. Baskonia hopes to have him back in time for the Copa del Rey in Valencia in late February, though the team still needs to secure qualification.

Sedekerskis’ injury explains his difficult start to the season, as persistent pain has limited both his mobility and productivity. His last appearance, in Kaunas against Žalgiris, was telling: he played just nine minutes and watched most of the second half from the bench.

With Luka Šamanić also sidelined and the club still searching for reinforcements in the market, Baskonia’s frontcourt depth has been severely depleted. The team now relies on Rodions Kurucs and Clément Frisch at power forward, with Khalifa Diop and Mamadi Diakite covering the center spot, leaving little margin for setbacks.
