Mouhamet Diouf officially inked a contract extension to remain a foundational pillar of Virtus Bologna under newly appointed head coach Alex Mumbru. Following the re-signing of veteran playmaker Daniel Hackett on Wednesday, the EuroLeague powerhouse secured the long-term future of their elite young center on Thursday.
Momo first arrived in Bologna during the summer before the 2024–25 season, following earlier stints at fellow Italian side UnaHotels Reggio Emilia and Spain’s Río Breogan, and instantly made an impact by helping in capturing Italy’s LBA UnipolSai championship title in his debut campaign.
Since then, the regular with the senior national team of Italy has transformed into a locker room leader and an irreplaceable frontcourt anchor.

He consistently commands heavy playing time, generating productive double-digit efficiency ratings across both continental and domestic action. Beyond his statistical consistency and minutes, the 24-year-old big serves as an essential mentor to the roster’s younger prospects.
“I’m very happy to stay in Bologna, a place I’ve come to consider a second home, and to begin my third season wearing the Virtus jersey,” shared Diouf, reflecting on his decision to continue his journey with the black-and-white jersey.
“I can’t wait to get started again, always striving to improve to help the team and my teammates and give my all for this club,” he added.
By retaining the Dakar native, management preserves a critical championship identity while reinforcing the squad for a demanding European campaign, combining with the domestic competitions through the 2026–27 winter schedule.
