During the recent 2025–26 campaign, the explosive 31-year-old guard-forward reached the pinnacle of his European career. He dominated domestic competition by capturing the Liga Endesa Top Scorer award and securing a selection to the All-ACB First Team. His offensive excellence translated seamlessly to the continental stage, where he anchored Baskonia with identical production in Europe’s premier tournament, shooting 41.2% from beyond the arc alongside a stellar 89.8% accuracy from the charity stripe for 18.2 points per contest.
This elite production made the former NBA veteran the most coveted target of the summer transfer market. While multiple powerhouse suitors, including FC Barcelona, aggressively pursued his signature, Madrid ultimately secured a verbal agreement on a lucrative two-year contract.
To facilitate the blockbuster transfer, the capital club had to navigate ACB’s intricate first-refusal market rules, which Baskonia strategically activated to mandate structured buyout negotiations rather than losing their franchise cornerstone without compensation.
Between 2016 and 2022, Luwawu-Cabarrot played six NBA seasons, suiting up for the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, Chicago Bulls, and Oklahoma City Thunder. Furthermore, he captured silver medals with France in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and EuroBasket 2022.
