CSKA Moscow head coach Dimitris Itoudis was quite satisfied with how his players performed to make the 1 – 0 in the series against Baskonia but really displeased with empty seats in “Megasport Arena”

Truth be told, the sight of only 7.000 spectators in a EuroLeague playoffs game wasn’t a pretty one. So, it was natural for Dimitris Itoudis to express his… amazement with the lack of fan presence in the match where his players made the 1 – 0 against the Basques.

“I don’t know what people expect from this team. I really don’t understand it. Congratulations to the 7.000 fans that came. They were really enthusiastic. But does CSKA have only 7.000 fans?”, wondered the Greek coach during the post-game press conference.

“I don’t understand it,” he said again and then addressed the journalists that were present. “Your mission is very important and you are doing a great job. Can you please ask them (the fans) what do they want from this team? This team is the champion of Europe. We are fighting like hell, we have the home-court advantage. We play good basketball, the club’s has the best possible players in the team.”

“Is this a picture? You go to OAKA you have 20.000 fans. In Vitoria the same. You have a different kind of pressure playing at Fenerbahce or Olympiacos. What is going on?”

Itoudis also mentioned, “This is a direct message to CSKA fans. That they know basketball and they want to see the team. Come over here and applaud the team. I hope you agree with me. That’s nothing less than the truth. We’re going to keep fighting because we have a big obligation. This is the playoffs. Nothing is granted, nothing will be easy. We have another big fight on Thursday.”
