Confirming a Eurohoops report about the future of Francesco Tabellini, ERA Nymburk parted ways with the Italian head coach.
The involved parties agreed to an early termination of his contract, the Czech club announced on Monday, noting multiple offers for his services from other clubs in stronger competitions.
Tabellini, 41, is the main candidate to replace Tiago Splitter as the new head coach of Paris in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and domestic competitions in France, as reported by Eurohoops.
Meanwhile, Oren Amiel is in advanced talks to return to Nymburk as the successor of Tabellini, according to Eurohoops. The champions of Czechia will soon officially announce the new head coach.
“We had a contract with coach Tabellini for one more season, but the team’s performances attracted so much attention throughout Europe that many clubs became interested in the coach. And we did not want to prevent him from moving forward in his career. That is why we found a solution and agreed to terminate the contract,” explained general manager Ladislav Sokolovsky, “Now we are working hard on a new coach so that we can start putting the squad together.”
Fellow Italian tactician, Giovanni Spessotto, is also stepping down from his role as the lead assistant of Tabellini at Nymburk.
As the head coach of Nymburk, Tabellini guided the team in 138 games, securing 116 wins. His efforts went into capturing two NBL championships, two Czech Cups, and two Czecho-Slovak Cups.
“After the last game of the Finals, I thanked the players, because it was mainly thanks to them that there has been a lot of interest for me in the last month,” he said, “Now I have a big challenge ahead of me. There has been a lot of speculation in the media. I can neither confirm or deny anything. As long as there is nothing official, I don’t want to talk about it.”
In addition to the head and assistant coaches, 28-year-old winger Tylan Birts has also left Nymburk to sign a two-year contract with Telekom Baskets Bonn.
